2/6

Happy Friday! My two friends and I went to Deerfield assisted living center this afternoon and baked chocolate chip cookies for all the residents. Even though it's for one of my classes, I kinda still enjoy hanging out there and interacting with all the older people. All the nursing home experiences I remember are dark and dreary and sad, but at Deerfield, it's more like they're staying in a dorm than a nursing home. They have a daily schedule of activities and plenty of opportunities to socialize and get out for awhile, even if it's just a trip to Walmart or Goodwill. We made our rounds and only got two or three rejections total. How can you resist chocolate chip cookies? One woman's room was filled with beautiful colorful drawings done by the man across the hall. Romance clearly isn't dead here. I can't wait to go back and learn more about the older generation's successes and setbacks in communication, and gather knowledge about how to serve them best when I become an SLP.
